Shirley Ann Bumpas Love-McGill was born May 30, 1947, in Lawrenceburg, TN to the late Leroy and Essie Bumpas. On August 19, 2022, God called his “Angel” home. She departed this life at North Alabama Hospital in Florence AL.
Shirley moved to Los Angeles, at an early age, after the passing of her parents, to live with her sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Sherman Kennedy. She was educated in the Lawrence County School System and continued her education in Los Angeles. Shirley graduated from Manual Arts High School in California. After graduation, Shirley earned the credentials to become a certified Medical Coder and worked in that position for 20 years in Los Angeles. She moved back to Lawrenceburg in 1990 and continued working as Medical Coder for 10 additional years in Columbia, TN, before retiring. After retirement, Shirley worked a few years at Buffalo River Services, supporting and caring for adult individuals with disabilities.
Shirley was happiest when she was with her grandchildren. They were the “apple of her eye.”
She also opened her heart to many other children. Shirley loved them and they loved her. She was known as “Ms. Shirley.”
Shirley was also happiest when she was “humming and singing” to her Plants. She was an avid gardener. She surrounded herself with plants inside her home, and outside in her yard. You could pass by her house at various times and see Shirley out in the yard, diligently working in the dirt, creating beautiful flowers and various other plants. She also had an abundance of yard decorations and yard ornaments. Such a glorious sight to see!
Shirley attended Church of Christ in Los Angeles and was a faithful member of College Place Church of Christ in Lawrenceburg. Shirley loved the Lord.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers: Leroy Jr., Frank, Joe, Robert, and Jerry Bumpas; four sisters: Grace Webster, Mary Frierson, Martha Kennedy, and Dorothy Beene; four nieces: Bettie Harvell, Sederria Jones, Renea Beene, and Darlisa Beene; and two nephews: Isom Webster, Jr. and Allen Bumpas.
Shirley is survived by her Husband of 28 wonderful years, Seth McGill; two Sons: Cornell Anderson (Deborah), and Tremayne Love; both of California; one Sister: Lillie M. Bumpas Jones; two grandchildren: Alexis Love and Dwaine Olden; two Great Grandchildren: Zoe and Asher Smith; Nieces: Angela Crenshaw, Mary Louise Stewart, Debra Wilkerson, Diane Jones Lewis, Carolyn Martin, Linda Bellafant, Pamela Preacely, Clentria Williams, and Jackie Bumpas; Nephews: John F. Kennedy, Jerry Bumpas, Jr., Leonard Beene, Jr., and Christopher Beene.
Also left to mourn her passing are Sisters-in-law: Ada M. Jones, and Jyuanna Havard (Paco); Brothers-in-law: John McGill (Valerie), David Jones (Donna), and Rightous Jones, and a host of cousins and friends.
Seth and Shirley were truly joined by GOD. They were a Christian Couple, devoted to the Lord, and truly devoted to each other. They were each other’s “other half.”
Please remember Seth, Cornell, Tremayne, Lillie, and all loved ones in your daily prayers and continue to show them love and support during this sad time and the difficult days ahead.
