Altha “Annette” Tackett Jones, born January 9, 1942, passed away after a lengthy illness on October 15, 2025, at the age of 83, in Round Rock, TX. Annette was born in Beaumont, TX, to Hulen and Dell Tackett, and graduated from Dawson High School in 1960.
After graduation, Annette attended Durham Business College in Waco, TX, and became a keypunch operator. In 1962, she married Norman “Richard” Jones and moved overseas to Germany as a military spouse. She traveled the world, raised two children, and eventually retired from the state of Texas.
Annette loved shopping, eating out, and spending time with her family. She found simple pleasure in watching her favorite tv sitcoms and was known for her meticulous record keeping. She took great pride in keeping a neat house and picking out home decor items. She loved putting together a cute outfit and always looked adorable - even if she was just relaxing at home. She enjoyed the smaller things in life and liked to laugh. She baked a mean coconut pie, loved grilled hot dogs, and treasured Sunday family dinners.
Throughout her career in Austin, Texas, Annette worked for the state, first at the University of Texas, and then at the Texas Workforce Commission. She was well-loved in the office and retired after years of dedicated service. Annette could stretch a dollar like no other and could always make something out of nothing. She taught her children to work hard and be responsible.
In 2015, she was diagnosed with an aggressive, rare adrenal cancer and defied the odds for ten years. She was a self-proclaimed jokester, often remarking that the cancer was playing Tic-Tac-Toe when she’d repeatedly go into remission. She never gave cancer too much attention and simply carried on with every day life in spite of it.
She made many friends across the United States at the 2nd & 17th Field Artillery Regiment military reunions. For many years, she enjoyed planning activities for the soldiers and their spouses. She baked cobblers and other desserts to share with her neighborhood friends.
Annette loved country music, listening to country gospel on Sundays, sweet and sour chicken, and fudgesicles. Largely dismissing football in her younger days, she developed an obsession with the Dallas Cowboys later in life. She missed her mama, also a Cowboys fan, and looked forward to a heavenly reunion. She will be deeply missed.
Annette was preceded in death by her parents, Hulen and Dell Tackett, of Tehuacana, TX. She is survived by her husband, Norman “Richard” Jones, of Leander, TX; a son, Randy R. Jones (Terry Courtney), of Georgetown, SC; her daughter, Vallory Jones (Jack Bryant), of Wasilla, AK; her grandson, Russell Jones, of Sidney, MT; her brother, Hulen Tackett (Linda), of Hubbard, TX; and her sister, Jeanette Tackett Chambers, of Forest Glade, TX.
Annette’s family would like to thank Baylor Scott & White hospice for taking excellent care of her and keeping her comfortable in her final days.
At Annette’s request, there will be no service.
