It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Carmen Peña Briseño on February 27, 2026. Carmen’s journey through life was a testament to love and resilience, and she leaves behind a profound legacy that will resonate within our hearts forever.
Carmen was not just a mother; she was a nurturing force whose resourcefulness shone brightly in the most challenging of times. The story of how she could feed all six of her children with just a single potato is a reflection of her incredible ability to make the most out of every situation, and it’s a beautiful testament to the love that she poured into her family every single day.
She is survived by her six beloved children: Marcella, Antonia, Rommel, Alex, Luis Jr, and Maria Briseño. Each of us feels the weight of her absence profoundly, and our hearts ache knowing that her comforting presence is no longer with us. However, her spirit will live on, and she will be deeply missed and cherished in our memories.
Carmen’s life began from humble beginnings, and alongside her husband, Luis Briseño Sr., they immigrated to the United States with dreams of better opportunities for their family. In Leander, Texas, they planted their roots, creating a home filled with love, laughter, and joy. Each corner of their home is filled with stories and memories that will forever reflect the warmth of their nurturing bond.
Her unique gift for imparting wisdom and teaching right from wrong will always be remembered. Carmen had a quick wit that brought humor to our lives, and her loving, forgiving nature never faltered. She showed unwavering support to each of her children, never giving up on any of us, no matter the circumstances.
Carmen also took immense pride in her role as a grandmother to her 15 grandchildren and a great-grandmother to her 9 great-grandchildren. She treasured every moment spent in their company, fostering bonds that will continue to unite our family in her absence.
As we gather in remembrance of Carmen Peña Briseño, we acknowledge that she was not only the heart of our family but a true matriarch whose spirit will continue to live on in all of us who had the privilege of knowing her.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Luis Egelsee and his dedicated staff, Dr. Darren Kocs and the entire team at Texas Oncology in Round Rock, as well as the compassionate St. David’s ER team and Oncology floor staff. We are especially thankful to the St. David’s Hospice team—particularly Susan, RN, Linda B., RN, and Roxie—for the exceptional care, comfort, and support they provided our mother during her final days and transition. Their kindness and professionalism meant more to our family than words can express.
We love you, Mom. May your memory be a blessing and guide us in times to come.
With love and remembrance,
Tu Familia
