

A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Cathy’s warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who knew her. Cathy is survived by her devoted husband, Donald R. Kopecky, and their three children: Stephanie (Kopecky) Kearns (Thomas Kearns) of Crawfordsville, IN; Thomas Kopecky (Kara Kopecky) of Austin, TX; and John M. Kopecky (Monica Kopecky) of Peyton, CO.
She was a proud grandmother to Nathan, J.D., Peter, and Connor (Grace) Kearns of Indiana; Kylie and Courtney Kopecky of Peyton, CO; and Abigail and Andrew Kopecky of Austin, TX. Cathy is also survived by her sister, Jacqueline Lawson of West Helena, AR.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Perry and Clytha Young of River Grove, IL.
She was graduate of East Leyden High School in Franklin Park, IL, Cathy also attended William Rainey Harper Junior College. Her life was marked by a deep commitment to her faith, family, and community. Over the years she served as a leader in various church women's ministries and bible study groups, sharing her love of God with others. Cathy was also a member of the PEO Sisterhood, where she built lasting friendships.
Cathy’s talents shone brightly as an artist, creating beautiful paintings and jewelry that reflected her creative spirit. She enjoyed golf, reading and spending time with loved ones. Her favorite vacation spots included the serene landscapes of Door County, WI, and the majestic Colorado mountains. What made Cathy truly unique was her gift of hospitality, her unwavering love for God and family, and her boundless kindness. Known for her empathy and genuine concern for others, she had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcomed and valued. Her legacy of love, faith, and compassion will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A celebration of her life will be held at Austin Baptist Church, with details to be announced.
