Ching-Yen Chen 陳敬炎, aged 91, of Cedar Park, Texas was born in Fuzhou, Fujian, China on August 20, 1934. His parents did not register his birth until a year later; therefore, his legal birth date is August 20, 1935. He passed away peacefully on July 26, 2026, in Cedar Park, Texas.
He had a rough childhood during the turbulent time of World War II. He had to escape from mainland China to Taiwan, leaving his whole family behind at age 15. As fate would have it, he reunited with his older sister on the street of Taiwan one day. She and her husband took care of him until he went to National Taiwan University (NTU) for college. He graduated from NTU with a bachelor’s degree in economics. He worked at the prestigious Bank of Taiwan. He retired from there as an assistant manager.
Ching-Yen was extremely kind, loving, and generous. When his cousin, Ye Gui, had no place to live, he took him in and let him stay with him for several years. He was always willing to give a helping hand to his friends and family with no questions asked. He was also intellectually gifted, graduating from a top tier high school and the best university in Taiwan. He used his abilities, skills and composure in many different, difficult situations.
Ching-Yen is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Ching-Yi Chen, and daughters Fen Chen and her husband Jim Wang, and Fung Chang. Additional survivors include grandchildren, Theodore Wang, Caroline Wang, and Iris Chang.
Visitation will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, 1200 S. Bagdad Road, Leander, Texas 78641, on August 3, 2026, from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm, followed by a Funeral Service beginning at 2:30 pm.
