He was born May 15, 1938 in Superior, Wisconsin to Clare E. and Florence G. (Zimmerman) Evens.
He graduated from Central High in 1956, where he was a outstanding basketball player. He also played football and baseball for Central. Attended University of Minnesota in Duluth and graduated from Wisconsin State University in Superior, Wisconsin in 1965, where he also played basketball. Gene was a proud member of the FEX Fraternity during his college years.
Gene married Mary Jane Rehl August 18 1962 they had three children.
He worked for Litton Industries for 35 years and Tellabs Industries for 10 years. After retirement, Gene enjoyed playing golf.
Gene is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Jane (Rehl) Evens; son, William P (Trisha) of Grants Pass, Oregon; daughter, Claudia G. Hamilton of Corvallis, Oregon, and son, Scott C. (Jennifer) of Hawaii; brother, John Evens of Bloomington, Minnesota; sister, Carol Evens of Iron River,Wisconsin. Four grandchildren, Joshua Evens of Portland, Oregon; Mathew Evens of Portland, Oregon; Jacob Evens of Hawaii and his granddaughter, Katie Evens of Hawaii and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be held, Thursday, August 5, 2021 at 10:30 A.M. at Saint Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Cedar Park, Texas.
