Cynthia Rose Summers, 74, of Leander, Texas, entered eternal rest surrounded in the love and warmth of her family on June 6, 2026. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and cousin to many, a true friend to all who knew her, and her presence will be deeply missed.
Born on May 2nd, 1952, at the Ryburn-King Memorial Hospital in Ottawa, Illinois, Cindy spent much of her life there where she married and raised her 3 children. She is survived by her son, Troy Summers (Susanne) of Rowlett, Texas, and her daughter, Gina Luby (Martin) of Leander, Texas, eight grandchildren: Lauren, Marti, Darius, Mya, Josiah, Nora, Timmy and Margaret and also five great-grandchildren (with one on the way). She was preceded in death by her mother, Leonore Sampson (Edward) and her daughter, Traci Summers. A devout Catholic, she was a long-time parishioner of St. Columba Catholic Church and a graduate of Marquette Catholic High School.
Always a natural nurturer with a deeply compassionate heart, Cindy dedicated many years of her life to caring for others. As a certified nursing and rehabilitation assistant at Rivershore’s Nursing Home, she provided endless love, comfort, and dignity to the residents in her care. Her gentle spirit, unwavering kindness, and selfless dedication left an indelible mark on the lives of everyone she touched, both in her career and in her personal life.
Beyond the immense pride and fulfillment brought by the addition of each and every grandchild and great-grandchild, Cindy found her greatest joys in life among all things simple. Her love of music, long hikes in the surrounding state parks, playing bingo and board games, and later, a tasty barbeque in the hot Texas sun sipping a cold Summer Shandy are just a few of the wonderful passions she shared with her family that will continue to live on through them.
“An angel on earth” was one of the first comments shared in the aftermath of her passing and there is no more perfect way to capture Cindy's truly humble and loving spirit. In the face of adversity, she possessed a profound sense of courage and resilience. Yet, no matter how difficult the road, her actions were always driven by what was best for others, and she walked through life with a rare, nonjudgmental kindness that made everyone feel safe in her presence.
A Funeral Mass and Celebration of Cindy's life will be held in Ottawa, Illinois, July 3rd. The family invites all who knew her to attend and share their favorite memories.
