August 24, 1973 – June 23, 2026
Some people leave behind accomplishments. Some leave behind possessions. She left behind beauty.
Born on August 24, 1973, in Houston, Texas, Deborah spent 52 remarkable years making the world around her just a little more beautiful. Whether she was admiring a breathtaking landscape, creating art with her own hands, or simply stopping to appreciate a perfect sunset, she had an eye for beauty that many of us rushed right past. She reminded us that there is always something worth noticing.
She loved art—not because it had to be perfect, but because it told a story. She loved nature because it never needed improving. Flowers, mountains, winding country roads, gardens, and open skies all seemed to speak her language.
She also had a wonderful sense of humor. She could laugh at life's absurdities, find joy in unexpected moments, and probably had a witty comment ready for almost any situation. She understood that sometimes laughter is the best way to carry us through the hardest days.
Her greatest masterpieces, however, were not paintings or gardens. They were her children, Raven Martinez and Gabrielle Martinez, whom she loved beyond measure. They were the center of her heart, her greatest pride, and the reason she always kept moving forward. Her love for them was fierce, unwavering, and endless.
Deborah is survived by her partner, Andy Mallet, who took tender care of her until the very end, her children, Raven Martinez and Gabrielle Martinez, their father, Fernando Martinez, her mothers Janie Carranza and Dora Sanchez, and sisters, Sandra Swanson, Yvonne Hernandez, and Crystal Carballo. She was preceded in death by her father, Rudy V. Hernandez – we are comforted by the knowledge that they are dancing in Heaven together.
She will be remembered for her creativity, her appreciation of the beautiful things in life, her laughter, and the kindness she shared with those fortunate enough to know her. Though her time here feels far too short, the colors she added to our lives will never fade.
As we say goodbye, we invite everyone who loved her to do something in her honor: pause to admire a beautiful view, visit an art gallery, plant something that will bloom, or simply laugh a little louder than usual. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and remembered every time we find beauty where it might be least expected.
