Born on August 7, 1953, in San Antonio, Texas, to Clarence and Doris Lee Pfannstiel, Don grew up with a strong sense of family and faith. After graduating from Harlandale High School in 1971, he married his sweetheart, Marilee, on October 5, 1974, and celebrated 50 years of marriage last year.
The Pfannstiels made their home in Jonestown in 1982, where Don built a life filled with love, laughter, and service. His 29-year career in the grocery industry was marked by dedication and expertise, culminating in his retirement from Monroe and Associates (Schraad) in 2009.
Don's passions were multifaceted. He was a master griller, renowned for his tender brisket and smoked meats. His kitchen was filled with the aromas of homemade baked goods, scratch-made tortillas, and hearty meals. But his greatest joy came from supporting his family, cheering on his children and grandchildren at sports games, concerts, and performances.
As an ordained deacon at Jonestown Baptist Church and later Crystal Lake Church, Don faithfully served for 38 years, with a special focus on ministering to children and youth. His legacy of love and service will continue to inspire countless lives.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Angel Joiner, and great-grandson Jaxon Cole Joiner. He leaves behind a legacy of love, cherished by his wife, Marilee; children Sarah Watters, Robert Pfannstiel, and Kristina Thornley (Michael); grandchildren Jakob Thornley, Isaiah Thornley, Misti Joiner, and Haydoun Pfannstiel-Opperman; great-granddaughter Hayden Rae Thornley; brother Clarence Douglas Pfannstiel (Letty); sister Deborah Lee Carver; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Let's honor Don's memory by sharing stories, cooking up some of his favorite recipes, or simply taking a moment to appreciate the impact he had on our lives."
