Gregory Francis Mondello was welcomed home with loving arms by his mom and dad and our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, September 26, 2023. He passed away peacefully at home with his best friend and loving wife, Debbie by his side.
Greg was born on October 30, 1947 in Galveston Texas to James “Buster” & Jamie Mondello. Buster’s line of work would move his family to various locations until they eventually settled in the small east Texas town of Henderson. There Greg would graduate High School and attend college.
After college he would enlist in the United States Airforce and serve his country in 1967. After his service he went on to be successful in many fields including work in the oil field and electrician and HVAC services. Later in life he would teach himself all there was to know about computers. He knew the programs, how to fix them and how to build them. He was our go-to-computer-nerd.
He and Debbie wed on July 14, 1989 and made their home in Cedar Park were they raised their 3 children until life moved them to Leander in 2019. He would retire from work in 2010 and begin his duties as Debbie’s chef and chauffer as she continued her career. His “Pop” duties would come shortly after that when he began watching his grandsons. He loved nothing more than to go watch them play baseball and whatever else they may be involved in. When time and health were against him he would make sure he could still hear the games on his phone app. He wasn’t’ going to miss a minute of cheering them on!!! They really were his pride and joy and he enjoyed any time he could see them.
Greg and Debbie were married for 35 years. He would lovingly refer to her as “the Beauty to his Beast”. They enjoyed fishing, camping, just driving around the hill country, heading to the Texas coast for a quick weekend getaway, watching the Longhorns play ball and sometimes watching the Cowboys!! They loved their little four-legged friends - Brutus, Buddy, Dixie and Red and more recently their grand-dog, Hank.
He is survived by his beautiful bride, Debbie who took care of him til his last breath, his younger brother Vince, his 3 children - daughter Jessica & husband Josh Dickinson, daughter Jannice Rae, and son Josh & wife Michelle Futrell. His grandchildren Dylan, Hunter, Arika, Travis, Levi, Lane and Kinsley who lovely referred to him as “Pop”.
He leaves behind nieces Christina and husband Kenny, Meredith and Erica and many extended family and friends who will forever miss him.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.wcfishleander.com for the Mondello family.
