Jane Elizabeth Duke McAshan was born on May 21, 1948 in San Francisco, California. She passed away at her home on June 16, 2024 surrounded by her family and friends. She was the daughter of Lt Col Thomas Duke and traveled the world with him along with her mother (Dorothy), brother (Thomas), and sister (Judy). Jane moved to many different places, including Japan, and quite often found solace in books. Her love for reading never stopped and she adored fantasy and science fiction authors. While attending Rice University in Houston, she met the love of her life, Robert B “Rocky” McAshan. They married in 1970 in Houston. Jane was an early adopter of computers working for Texas Instruments and eventually becoming the Vice President of the Texas Instruments Houston Users Group. In the 1980s, she opened a computer store, selling Amiga computers. In fact, prior to the existence of the internet, Jane ran a computer bulletin board out of her own home.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her children; Beth, David, and Robert; fondly remember family trips to Disney World and cruises that later included her grandchildren: Evan, Kierra, Ashlyn, Rowan, and Hallie. She enjoyed hosting family and friend gatherings at the home she designed in Leander Texas, frequently building legos and puzzles with her family. A devotee to her feline overlords, she cared and protected many over her years.
“Crafter Jane” was one of the original members of “ Club Scrap”. She loved making a variety of crafts including scrapbooks, greeting cards, cross stitch, stained glass and miniatures. With her nurturing demeanor, she enjoyed teaching those skills to new crafters. An avid Ingress and Pokemon player, Firegoddess, helped the Enlightened protect the world while “collecting them all!”. Her love of dragons and butterflies were well known in her art and garden making. A semi-pro genealogist, she enjoyed exploring the family history and she skillfully gathered and restored photographs.
Jane is survived by her husband, siblings, children and grandchildren.
