John "Jack" Edward Darnell, age 70, passed away in the peace and comfort of his Cedar Park, Texas home on Thursday, January 21st, 2021 with his family by his side. He was a kind and loving son, husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He will truly be missed by us all.
Jack was born on March 7, 1950 in Calgary, Alberta and grew up in the Cleveland, Ohio area until moving to Texas with his wife in their late twenties. He graduated college from Ohio Northern University and went on to become an Equipment Manager/Supervisor for various construction companies in Austin, Texas.
Jack was a kind, humble, and gentle giant. He was the ultimate storyteller and loved telling the family "Jack Tales" from his life experiences and enjoyed embellishing the details over time. Jack cherished spending time with his family, almost as much as he loved chocolate. He and Cheryl enjoyed taking weekend trips down to the coast as well as catching the latest movie. In his spare time, Jack loved to organize and label everything around the house, the refrigerator was no exception. When Jack wasn’t playing catch in the yard or shooting hoops in the driveway, he was on the fields or courts coaching his son's teams. He was a well-respected coach and mentor for many youth basketball, baseball and soccer teams in the Austin area.
Jack is preceded in death by his father, William Darnell, and mother, Sarah Pam Darnell. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Cheryl Jane Darnell; son Jason Darnell (Sarah Darnell, grand cat JJ); son Todd Darnell (Megan Darnell, grand dogs Maya and Rufio); brother Jim Darnell (Jane Darnell); sister Janice Toreki (George Toreki); and many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
