Joy Gail Lugar

Joy was a Business School graduate of Abilene Christian University where she met her future husband Winston Lugar. She worked for David S. Castle Architects and Engineers as a bookkeeper. Winston and Joy married on 8-20-1950 and lived most of their married life in Enid, Oklahoma where they moved in 1957. Joy became a full-time homemaker and was an involved member of her community, where she was a Camp Fire leader and Boy Scout den mother, as well as a member of PEO and Chi Beta study club. She was a member of the Garriott Road Church of Christ for over 50 years, teaching Sunday School and helping with numerous church projects and activities. Once all her children left for college she worked full-time as a bookkeeper for Lugar Oil, her husband’s business until he passed away. Her children always laughed that it was his best hiring decision. She was an avid bridge player, loved traveling, and served as a Garfield County Precinct volunteer for many years. Joy lived out her Christian faith and was generous with both her time and resources.

Joy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Winston, and her son David. She is survived by children, Tanis Cornell and (Don) of Leander, TX, Steve Lugar and (Gari) of Dallas, TX, and daughter-in-law Lajan Lugar (David Lugar) of Horseshoe Bay, TX along with 7 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for Joy will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, 1200 S. Bagdad, Leander, Texas 78641, with a reception to follow. A service will also be held in Enid, OK at a later date in conjunction with her burial.
