Kayla was born with big beautiful blue eyes in Lubbock, Texas on June 1, 1987 to Joe and Robin Greene. It was evident from the start that Kayla was special. She was a little sister to Amy, a big sister to Melyssa, and a proud Aunt to Rylee.
Kayla went to Honey Elementary School in Lubbock before moving to Cedar Park, Texas in 1998 where she went on to Giddens Elementary School, Leander Middle School, and graduated from Leander High School. She later moved to a group home in Eastland, Texas for several years before transferring to her most recent home in Georgetown to be closer to her family.
Kayla was born with Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS), a very rare and incurable genetic disorder. PWS presented many challenges that were overcome by hope, dedication, surgeries, therapies, and the village of people who cared for her. As a little girl, she loved playing patty cake with her dad, taking her babydolls everywhere, watching soap operas and Oprah with her mom, and playing Challenger League T-Ball with her sisters. As a young lady, she went to Down Home Ranch summer camp with her friends, parasailed with her classmates, and developed an interest in art. As a young woman, she became a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Leander Chapter 73, moved out of her parent’s house, lost 100 pounds, won countless Special Olympics medals, and leaned into her sense of humor.
Kayla will be missed more than words can express. She beamed with her smile, gave big hugs, and liked to hold your hand when she talked with you. She fiercely loved her family and friends and would always tell us so. To know Kayla is to know Disney princesses, sticker books, what time we eat next, Red Raider spirit, puppy convo translations, and complete unconditional love.Kayla was fortunate to have so many caring teachers, therapists, and caregivers who helped enrich her life with activities, life skills, and community events.
