Born in December 1934 in Goshen, Indiana, Joan lived a life devoted to faith, family, and service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, her brother Jack, and her parents, John and Connie Wainwright. She is survived by her brother, Mark (Drez), her seven children, Barb (Duane), Connie (Dan), Bob (Lisa), Jody (Jessie), Rick (Veronica), Tina (Will), and Tami (Greg). A dedicated member of Anderson Mill Baptist Church for over 50 years, Joan expressed her faith through both word and action. She had a lifelong passion for caring for children—serving in overseas orphanages, fostering children, and later directing the church daycare.
During her husband’s distinguished military career and throughout their retirement, Joan and her family traveled the world, embracing new cultures and communities. In 1974, she was honored as Military Wife of the Year for her humanitarian work with international adoption in Korea.
Gifted with her hands and her heart, Joan loved sewing, quilting, knitting, and crocheting. Over the years, she made hundreds of baby blankets—each one a testament to her generosity, creativity, and care.
Joan’s legacy of love, faith, and service will live on in every life she touched.
