Marie Waley, 95, passed away at home Wednesday, February 8th in the presence of family. She has joined her husband of 72 years, Floyd Waley, at peace and will be laid to rest beside him near their long time home in Leander, TX.
Marie, nee Muriel Dycus, was born October 28, 1927 in Martindale, Texas, the daughter of William and Evie (Brown) Dycus. She married Floyd at just 17-years-old in Georgetown, TX on September 1, 1945. Together they raised their two sons and welcomed countless grandchildren, neighbors, friends, and family to their Leander farm with open arms. Marie retired from the Leander Public School System after dedicating her career to serving her community. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, and raising goats and chickens. She loved to cook and will be remembered for her wonderful dinners, pies, and homemade jellies.
Marie is preceded in death by her husband Floyd who passed away in 2018; her parents, William and Evie Dycus; sister, Bessie Lee “Hippie” Brooks, and two brothers, Gus Dycus and Hershel Dycus. She was known to her family as Mom, Grandmother, or Aunt Marie, and is survived by her sisters Mary Jo Harris and Billie Lynn; sons Edward and wife Cathy, Marvin and wife Sandy; grandchildren Wendi, Clay, Sami, and Sally; and great-grandchildren, Ian, Ava, Merit, Wilder, Lively, Jules, and one on the way. Her enumerable nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also mourn her passing. We will miss her hugs and joy at seeing a beloved family member or friend walk through her door.
