He attended the Horace W. Porter School in his hometown of Columbia Connecticut, from Kindergarten to 8th grade. Michael attended and graduated from the Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor Connecticut. Michael was the Captain of the Loomis Chaffee Varsity Ski Team, and a member of the Varsity Football Team as a defensive tackle. Michael was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, Boston University Chapter. He earned his Bachelors Degree in Political Science from Boston College, in Chestnut Hill Massachusetts. Michael continued his education at Loyola Marymount University School of Law, in Los Angeles California where he earned his Law Degree and earned his Masters Degree in Taxation.
Michael leaves behind his father Thomas Melo, his mother Alice Melo, his sister Melissa Melo Burns, his brother in law Jay Burns, and his niece Juliana Rose Burns, plus many other family members and friends who loved him.
Michael will be laid to rest in the Melo family plot with his grandparents Wally and Dottie Melo, at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Willimantic Connecticut.
