Roger Dale Flowers

July 7, 1955April 15, 2021

Roger Dale Flowers was born July 7, 1955 to Gilford and Gertrude Flowers of Tulia, Texas. He passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2021 in Leander Texas at the age of 65. He attended elementary, junior high and high school in Tulia and graduated in May of 1973.

Roger married Lorrie Buchanan April 8, 1977. They just celebrated 45 years together. Roger and Lorrie moved from Tulia, Texas to Round Rock, Texas where he went to work for The United Parcel Service driving a delivery truck. He worked there for eight years.

Roger and Lorrie then moved to Leander, Texas where he worked for The City of Leander Parks and Recreation Department as a supervisor until he retired in August of 2020. He retired after 15 years of dedicated service to the Leander community.

Roger had an abundance of friends and loved life. He loved everybody with his whole heart. He left us too early, as there were still goals he would have liked to accomplish. His cheerful personality and genuine caring attitude will be missed by anyone who knew him. He had a contagious smile with an ornery side and great sense of humor.

Roger is survived by his wife, Lorrie Buchanan Flowers of Leander; his son, Tanner Flowers of San Antonio; his daughter, Janae Flowers Burns of Leander; grandchildren, Kenzie, Chase, and Cyler; his brothers Roland Flowers (Sherma) of Happy and Doug Flowers (Marketta) of Amarillo; his nephews, Kirk Flowers (Penny) of Canyon, Gabe Flowers (Christina) of Happy, Roy Flowers (Jennifer) of Dallas, Shane Flowers (Tiffee) of Amarillo, Rob Bice (Julie) of McKinney and Bobby of Lytle; his nieces, Courtney Oles (Lee) of Lubbock, Kathryn Coppinger (Eric) of Amarillo and Jodie of Lytle; his brother in-law, Mark Buchanan (JoAnn) of Lytle; his sister in-law Vicki Buchanan Brant of Ft. Worth and numerous aunts, cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends.

Lorrie, Tanner and Janae would like to thank the City of Leander Parks and Recreation Department for all the love and support they have given them at this time of loss.

Service will be held at Mason Homestead 1101 S Bagdad Rd, Leander, TX 78641 on Friday April 30, 2021 at 10:30 A.M.

Roger you will truly be missed. You had a smile that would light up any room and the biggest heart of anyone I knew. Such a compassionate person and always willing to help with no questions asked. I will always remember your laugh and your humor and telling it like it was. You left a void in the city when you retired and now in this world. Rest In Peace Roger... I will always hold your memory close to my heart.

My deepest condolences to Lorrie, the kids and the family. Blessings to you all.

It was an honor and a privilege to get to know and work with Roger.
He had a heart bigger than Texas and was a sincere and genuine friend. He took his family and work responsibilities very seriously and thought about others before himself. Roger was the first one to show up for work and the last one to leave. Roger taught anyone fortunate enough to know him by example but I don’t think he knew that. To him it was just the right thing to do. Every year he would buy two or three kids bikes to be given away by the City at Christmas time. He will be greatly missed but his light will always shine brightly in the hearts of those who knew him.
Jim and I send our deepest sympathies to Lorrie and family

Roger had a way with people. He knew how help those around him become better in his own unique fashion. It was a mix of tough love, straightforward honesty with an abundance of kindness, biting humor and his wonderfully told stories of his early life were always a pleasure to hear. I had the fortune to know him for nearly 20 years, yes he went way to early but in his time he helped shape many people. To sum it up, I'll say this: Everyone needs a friend like Roger Flowers in their life. I am glad he was in mine. See you down the road my Friend.

Roger was one of the kindest, hard working and dedicate people I had the pleasure to know and work with. We lost him way too soon. Leander is a much better place because of him and his dedication to public service. I will miss him, but not forget him. Tricia and I send our thoughts and prayers to all his family.
