Born in Austin, Texas, on April 11, 1933, Tex carried with him a proud Texas heritage dating back over 146 years. He carried that legacy with pride, resilience, and a wonderful sense of humor—quick with a story, a smile, or the perfect comment or joke to make those around him laugh. His humor made it easy for him to connect with others and make friends wherever he went. Tex lived a long and meaningful life centered on family, service to his country, and the many people whose lives he touched along the way.
Tex proudly served in the Korean War in the United States Navy, serving aboard the USS Marshall DD676, and USS Bradford DD545, and USS Walton DE361. Tex’s years in the Navy were an important part of his life, and he carried the pride and memories of his service with him throughout the years.
Tex was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lorna McGill; his daughters, Rhonda Summerbell and husband Paul; Cathy DeLeon and husband Ron; and Theresa Kohler (late John Kohler); his sister, Nancy Kellam (late Jimmy Kellam); and many grandchildren and great grandchildren, along with extended family and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by parents George W and Minnie V McGill, and siblings Patsy Ruth Pearson, Mary Jo Chadwick, George McGill Jr, Larry McGill, Merrell McGill, and Johnny McGill.
Tex will be remembered for his strength and the memories he created with those he loved.
