Annetta P. Bucks Hoke, 99, of Lebanon, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, in Cedar Haven Health Center following a severe fall sustained in July. She was the loving wife of Mark Hoke for 65 years until his passing in 2009. Born in Lebanon on April 15, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Roy W. and Myrl I. Weirich Bucks. By age 4, her father had already taught her to read which instilled in her a lifelong love of reading. She actually skipped second grade because her first grade teacher said: “She would be bored.” Annetta was a Lebanon High School graduate, class of 1939 and Lebanon Business College. She worked at the Good Samaritan Hospital as secretary and switchboard operator, the Lebanon Steel Foundry, and then became a stay-at-home mom also working as bookkeeper for her husband’s business: Hoke’s Bottling Works. After they closed the business in the mid ‘60’s, she returned to the workplace at the Lebanon Tuberculosis Society, Tillie Spangler’s Dress Shop and retired from the Cornwall-Lebanon School District as secretary to the Director of Business Affairs. She was a member of Covenant U. M. Church for over 75 years, where at one time she served on the chancel guild and also in the Nursery Department. Annetta was very proud of her “Bucks” heritage and enjoyed spending time at her uncle Allen P. Bucks’ farm. Besides being an avid reader, she liked flowers, butterflies, art, birds and bunnies. She was always ready to watch a movie or go shopping. She enjoyed doing Word Search and jigsaw puzzles, playing cards and all board games. She was known as “The Queen of Parcheesi”. Annetta loved being with her family, taking many trips with them to art museums and historical and nature sites. She doted on her twin granddaughters; they were so very special to her. She is survived by her daughter, Marlys A. Hoke Ogurcak and son-in-law, Albert D. Ogurcak, with whom she resided for the past 26 years; granddaughters: Alana M. Ogurcak, wife of Dan Elder, Rochester, NY; and Danielle E. Ogurcak, PhD, of Miami FL,; and numerous cousins and friends. Services and burial by the Rohland Funeral Home, Lebanon, were private. A celebration of Annetta’s life is being planned for the Spring of 2022. Memorials in Annetta’s name can made to: The Lebanon Community Library, 125 N. 7th St., Lebanon, PA 17046 or the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, 159 Sapsucker Woods Road, Ithaca, NY, 14850 or Covenant U. M. Church, 346 N. 9th Street, Lebanon, PA, 17046. The family would like to thank her surgeon, Dr. Vincent R. Avallone, nurses at Wellspan G. S. H., the nurses and aides at CHHC, and Kindred Hospice for all their loving care.
