Betty Ann (Bowman) Simmers, 88, of Lebanon passed away April 1, 2024, at home surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband John (Jack) W. Simmers, her sister Linda (Bowman) Brown and her mother Mae Bowman. She leaves behind four children: Donna J. (Simmers) Brunson and husband David, Donald G. Simmers and wife Sue, John W. Simmers, Jr. and wife Karen, and Barbara Bernot and husband Anthony. She also had 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Betty was the best wife, mother and grandmother to her family that anyone could have ever asked for. Her husband Jack was the love of her life for 56 years before his passing in 2013. They enjoyed many years of Sunday afternoon rides with the kids and stopping for ice cream, Sunday night Simmers family gatherings, Saturday night card games with their friends from Pleasant Hill, and many Neversink Fire Company events over the years.
Betty retired from Bayer Corporation in Myerstown. Her favorite job though was working at Penn National Racecourse. She worked as a teller at the ticket windows & loved the horse races. In later years she spent many birthdays watching the races with her kids and grandchildren.
She loved jigsaw puzzles, word search puzzles, going to Kauffman's Chicken, trips to her sons’ cabins in the mountains, where she would sit on the swing and watch for bear or go out spotting for animals. They all followed her one rule – No one could get up before 9 a.m. haha
A viewing will be held at Rohland’s Funeral Home from 9-10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 with the service to follow at 10 a.m. Burial will be following the service at Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. with a luncheon to follow. Pallbearers are Donald German Simmers, John W. Simmers Jr., Noah C. Simmers, Andrew J. Simmers, Brett S. High, Donald George Simmers. Honorary Pallbearer is David L. Brunson.
Her children spend the last two months of her life taking care of her at home with help from Caring Hospice. It is their wish that instead of flowers, those wishing to honor Betty’s life in some way would make a memorial donation to:
