Jane Louise Sando

Jane Louise Peffley Sando of Lebanon died Friday June 27, 2025 at Wellspan Good Samaritan Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry D. Sando in 1996. They were married December 18, 1943. She was also predeceased by two children, an infant son, Harry D. Sando, Jr., and 12 year-old son, William Sando in 1960. Born in Lebanon on July 11, 1925, she was the daughter of William H. Peffley and Gladys Peffley. Jane was a 1943 graduate of Lebanon High School, and was a proud member of the High School Drum and Bugle Core. She enjoyed language, and studied Latin and German. She was a compassionate person and aspired to be a nurse. However, life takes various turns, and she did not realize that goal. Because of her compassionate nature, she was always willing to help others and would have been an excellent nurse. She was a loving mother who also helped and cared for many friends and neighbors throughout her life. She had been employed in the chemical laboratory of the Bethlehem Steel Concentrator plant in West Lebanon. At one point in their married life, her husband bought his own milk route from Wengert’s Dairy, and Jane became a partner in their enterprise, as she helped in milk delivery and collections. Jane also worked at Peiffer’s Foodland Grocery Store from 1968-1985. After retiring from Foodland, she enjoyed her home, was an excellent cook and baker, and she enjoyed spending time in her pool. She crocheted, like to do puzzles, did gardening, and she loved her pet cats, Sammi and Barney. She enjoyed trips to the Poconos spending time visiting with her close friends. As someone who had lived just two weeks short of a century, Jane had a great desire and will to live and actively did so until her passing. Jane is survived by her son, Thomas A. Sando, who was her caregiver and who was at her bedside at her passing. She is also survived by her loyal cat, Barney, who kept vigil over her in her last days at the hospital. In addition, she is survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are being made by Rohland Funeral Home.
