John J. Witman, 88, passed peacefully into Heaven on Monday, February 17, 2025. A short-term resident of Juniper Village in Lebanon, Pa, he lived in Quentin, PA, for most of his life. Born on February 23, 1936, he was the son of the late James and Mary Witman. He was the beloved husband of Margaret “Peggy” (Smith) Witman with whom he celebrated 70 years of marriage on January 8, 2025. He loved telling everyone they were high school sweethearts.
John was employed by Quaker Alloy Casting Company for 41-1/2 years, much of that time as a quality control technician. He retired at 62, and then spent the next 20 years working part time in the Lebanon County Courthouse security department. He also worked part time at Lebanon Expo.
John’s hobbies and interests included the Ambulance Corps, Dart League, Bowling League, Little League Baseball, and church committee work. He also enjoyed watching old western movies and going to the latest movie releases. His true passion was being part of the Quentin Volunteer Fire Company. John served many roles and was a valued Trustee for many years.
He had the gift of gab and a wonderful sense of humor. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and when done, that person always felt better for it. He had a contagious laugh and would truly crack himself up. He loved spending time with his family!
In addition to his wife, John is survived by a sister, Betty Lou (Witman) Yocklovich, two children, James, married to Ann (Brightbill) Witman, and Susan, married to Peter Dussinger; four grandchildren, Kevin Witman, fiancé of Jess Sprout, Ryan Witman, married to Nicole Specht, Kaitlyn (Dussinger) Neeper, married to Jared Neeper, and Courtney (Dussinger) McCarren, married to Van McCarren; and two great grandchildren, Ellie Neeper and Finnegan McCarren.
The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Juniper Village who took great care of John.
