Lorna "Cookie" Rothermel

She was the wife of the late Robert C Rothermel, to whom she had been married for 45 years.

She was born in Lansdale Pa on March 28, 1944. She was the daughter of the late Ernest J Shaffer and Laquita Mary Louise Shaffer (Stahler). She was a1962 graduate of North Penn Senior High School, and a 1965 graduate of Montgomery Hospital, Norristown where she received her Registered Nurse degree.

She was employed as an RN working at The Good Samaritan Hospital both on the Medical/Surgical floor and in the emergency room. She then worked multiple years in private practice for a pediatrician and a pulmonologist.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Lebanon. Cookie enjoyed being involved there and served on multiple committees. She enjoyed the lifelong friends she made there and loved attending church.

She was a member of R Fish & Stream and enjoyed spending time fishing!

Cookie enjoyed spending time with friends and family. Cookie especially enjoyed being with children and they always brought a smile to her face. Cookie was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Cookie enjoyed spending time outside, taking care of her flowers, taking walks, going to Penn State football games, playing with dogs, and loved being at the beach.

She enjoyed spending time with her best friend Carl Deemer. She credited him for teaching her to fish and making her “a mountain woman” They enjoyed watching the wildlife, going to the casino and just doing everyday things together.

She is survived by her children, Keith A. and wife Lisa Rothermel, Brickerville, Karen L. wife of David Speece, Mechanicsburg; grandchildren, Megan (Fischer) wife of Andrew, Meredith Rothermel, Lucas Murray and Lindsay Murray, step grandson Ryan Speece. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Annalise Fischer and step great grandchildren Jacob and Gabriel Speece; and sister Sylvia Kellett and brother Bruce Shaffer, nieces Jennifer Willison and Rebecca Mannion and their families.

Memorial services will be Friday December 5, 2025 at 10:30am in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church 723 Lehman St., Lebanon, PA 17046 with a time of visitation from 9:30am until the time of service. A luncheon will be served from 11:30am until 12:30pm in the church. Interment will be in the National Cemetery at Ft. Indiantown Gap at 1:30pm.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the church or Alzheimer's Association.
