Lucinda Ann “Cindy” (Martz) Matthew was born on July 22, 1948 to Robert H. Sr. & Lyda R. (Dworchak) Martz in Lykens, PA. Cindy passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at Alpine Valley Post Acute & Healthcare Center (formerly Spang Crest) on November 8, 2025 following a heroic bout with Alzheimer's.
Growing up, Cindy enjoyed playground dances, driving Powder Puff race cars, cheerleading, working as a server at the Dixie, fishing, and visiting family in Millersburg, PA. She was a proud graduate of Lebanon High School.
Cindy was a young mother of three who held down the homefront while working. She was employed at the State Capital, held a real estate license, was a deed researcher, and was co-owner of “Remembrance Specialty Shoppe,” a small business in Annville, PA. Nothing gave Cindy more pleasure, however, than supporting her community. As a top notch hostess, she opened her beloved home, Stone House, for many fundraising events. She volunteered and served on many boards and committees such as Wellspring, Hummingbird Program, Good Samaritan Wellspan and Lebanon High School Reunion Committee, to name a few.
Cindy was a loving wife, mother, and friend. She was generous and kind hearted, frequently putting others above herself. Her family was her number one priority, but travel was a close second. Tours through Europe, Scandinavian adventures, getaways to Mexico, and trips to the Caribbean, especially the DR, were some of her favorites. Locally, she enjoyed flying, snow skiing, and back yard pool days. Her delicious home cooked dinners were only surpassed by her holiday specialties. Cindy could be the life of the party at any event, from dinners out and galas to game nights with family. Dancing was appropriate at any time! She also enjoyed time with the grand and great grandchildren, shopping, cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles, sipping a chardonnay with ice, and snuggling with her pet dogs. We were blessed by Cindy’s smile and zest for life. She was without a doubt “the wind beneath many wings”.
Cindy was preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years, Gary T. Matthew; parents; and siblings, Linda Drye and Robert H. “Bob” Martz Jr. She is survived by children Lyda E. McCarty (wife of Dennis), Albert “Fred” Mertz III, Jeremy R. Mertz (husband of Heidi), 9 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and a large network of extended family and friends.
A private family service will be held.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to those who bravely and whole heartedly walked by Cindy’s side during her journey with Alzheimer's. Your kindness, caring, and assistance during the last few years has been immeasurable.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
