Robert J. Ackerman

Robert J. Ackerman, 78, passed away Friday, July 29, 2011 in Cedar Haven, Lebanon. He was the husband of Irene M. Wykstra Ackerman of whom he would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary with on August 25th. Robert was born in Munhall on November 22, 1932. He was the son of the late Aldace and Margaret Harkins Ackerman. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was retired foreman from the Lebanon V.A. Medical Center with 18 years of service. He was a member of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Lebanon and was an avid golfer and deer hunter. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by his children, Linda and her husband Stephen Mumma of Lebanon, Bob D. Ackerman and his wife Jane of Alaska, Cindy Rittle of Lebanon, Daniel J. Ackerman and his wife Kristine of Middletown, Jay P. Ackerman and his wife Brenda of Lebanon; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Patricia Churilla and fraternal twin sister, Bobbie Ann McMahon. He was preceded in death by his brothers, William and Earl Ackerman. Family and friends are invited to his funeral service on Friday at 10 a.m. in the Rohland Funeral Home Inc., 508 Cumberland St., Lebanon, where a viewing will begin at 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment at 11:30 a.m. with full military honors will be held in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cedar Haven, 590 S 5th Ave., Lebanon, PA 17042.
