With a deep sense of sorrow and loss, our family announces the passing of Clare Gaetz on January 29, 2016 at Leduc Hospital. He celebrated his 87th birthday, this past October, surrounded by family.
A service will be held on Saturday February 6, 2016 – 2:00 p.m. at St. David’s United Church, 4614-48 street, Leduc, Alberta.
Clare is survived by his wife Arlene Gaetz (nee Parker), sons Judson (Lee), Murray & Warren (Barb) Gaetz. He also leaves to mourn his grandchildren; Rebecca Evers (Albert), Oren, McKenna, Parker, Jill & Clinton Gaetz. Clare was blessed with great grandchildren; Hannah, Jonah & Jacob Evers as well as extended family and friends.
Clare was predeceased by his parents, Leo St. Clair & Jean Gaetz (nee Drummond); son Clinton Gaetz; brothers, Gordon Gaetz (Nora) & Doug Gaetz.
Clare was born in Edmonton and was a life-long resident of Leduc. At an early age he joined the family business, Gaetz Agencies. In 1951 Clare married Arlene and soon after began a family. The family enjoyed many summers tenting, snorkelling, fishing and boating at Sand Point, Idaho. On many of these occasions, Clare would pop back home to enter the Klondike Days beard growing contest, where he took first place several years in a row.
Clare remained a businessman in Leduc throughout his years. He enjoyed fellowship and membership in local service clubs, including, Leduc Legion, Leduc Elks, Leduc Golf & Country Club and Leduc Chamber of Commerce. Clare was also a proud supporter of local charities and other organizations to include Leduc Minor Soccer, Black Gold Health Foundation, Leduc Foundation - Gaetz Landing Project, Leduc and District Food Bank.
Near and dear to his heart were his years as Santa which later became Leduc Santa`s Helpers Society.
The family would like to extend our thanks to Dr. Sonpar, the nurses & staff of Leduc Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Kidney Foundation, Leduc Santa’s Helpers Society or charity of choice.
