On September 14, 2019, a light was forever extinguished from this world when our Beloved Dennis lost his battle with leukemia and passed away. Dennis was so many things to so many people. He will most certainly be remembered for his sense of humour and wit. Smiles and laughter were guaranteed when he was around. He was a compassionate man whose generosity with his time and expertise was admirable. He gave tirelessly of himself to family, friends and numerous organizations. Loyal, dependable and hard working are all words which describe him to a T. He strongly valued education obtained formally, on-the-job, or from life experiences. Family and friends always came first with Dennis. You could call on him anytime, anywhere and know he would deliver.
Dennis was born on June 3, 1942, in Edmonton, Alberta. He grew up on the family farm near Leduc, Alberta and later studied at the University of Alberta. It was here that he met his future wife. The economic downfall of the early 1980’s forced a move to north of the 60th parallel. Yellowknife, NT, became a second home to the Malloy family for the next two decades. Upon ‘retirement’, Dennis returned to Leduc where he lived for the remainder of his days.
His big, big heart & “Get ‘er done” attitude will forever be missed and always remembered by his wife of 51 years, Sylvia; his children: Nicole (Jason Knipe), Kerri (Blair Graham), Kim (Scott Mills) and grandchildren: William, Zoe, Paige, Megan, Jenna & Emily. He is survived by his older brother Allan (Helen) Malloy, foster brother and sister, Karl (Pauline Siczek) and Stephanie (Milo Thompson), many cousins and numerous nieces and nephews.
A prayer service celebrating Dennis’ life will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2019, at 7:00 pm (Viewing: 6:00 pm). A funeral service is scheduled for Friday, September 20, 2019, at 11:00 am. All services will take place at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Leduc, Alberta.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that Memorial Donations be made to St. Michael’s Church ‘Planning for Tomorrow’ project (via the church office at 780-986-3253). Dennis was instrumental in founding “Planning for Tomorrow”. It is a cause very near and dear to his heart.
Dennis, we are all richer people for having known you and the world is a better place because of the mark you have left upon it. We hope your new family in heaven enjoys your stories as much as we have. May you rest in peace, forever surrounded by our love.
