Doris Wilhemina Schmidt

August 28, 1934March 20, 2020

With great sadness the family of Doris Schmidt is announcing her peaceful passing on Friday, March 20, 2020, after a short illness. She is survived by children Orville (Lorraine), Clifford (Lucille), Elaine (Alexander), Rodney (Dominique) and Bruce (Billy-Jo), 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, brothers Otto Soch and Leonard Soch, and sisters Martha Horne and Esther Schmidt. She was predeceased by husband Otto Schmidt and parents Ferdinand and Bertha Soch. She will also be missed and fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews, friends and neighbours, and others who called her Aunty, Oma or MaMa. Besides the family she cherished, she leaves other loves: her church, the farm, her garden, and her many talents with cooking and crafts. At this time, there will be a private service and interment for the immediate family and siblings, with a public memorial and celebration to be announced at a later date.

I was privileged to have grown up down the road from our Schmidt cousins and my Auntie Doris and Uncle Otto. As my mom and Auntie Doris were sisters and my dad and Uncle Otto were brothers, we saw one another often, had a shared childhood, and an aunt and uncle who were much like second parents. Auntie Doris was a beautiful soul; everyone was drawn to her goodness and the love she unconditionally shared with everyone she knew. She didn’t judge; she always chose kindness over criticism. She was a talented crafter, gardener and cook. She volunteered her time for church and community, worked hard at their family home and farm, but always had time for her family and friends. Her passing will leave a large void in our lives, but many precious memories. My deepest sympathy to her family.
