Herbert Eric Lede

Herb was born and raised on a farm in Hay Lakes, Alberta, attended the Canard country school and participated in many activities of the nearby St. Stephen’s Lutheran church.

At age 17, Herb joined his brother Bill full-time at Leduc Construction, where he became a part-owner. During these years, he gained an encyclopedic knowledge of Alberta's various well sites, roads, and highways. On almost every family car trip, Dad would announce that they had built a section of that highway from one point to another and would share many great stories about his time in the field. In due course, Leduc Construction became Ledcor Industries, where Herb held various administrative positions, including President and Chairman. For several years, he also served as President of the Leduc Golf and Country Club and the Oilfield Contractors Association. After retiring from Ledcor, Herb served as a Director of the Edmonton Airport Authority for several terms and farmed full-time.

Herb will be greatly missed by his daughter Jennifer and grandson Rylan; his son Mark and daughter-in-law Kate; his partner of the past ten years, Irmgard; and by many other family members.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family, having been predeceased by his parents and seven siblings (including his twin brother, Ernest). He was also predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Pat Lede; his two precious granddaughters, Kira and Amy; and his son-in-law, Doug Monaghan.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM, on Thursday, May 7, 2026, in Peace Lutheran Church, 4606 48 St., Leduc, with Pastor Matt Lyseng presiding.

A private interment will be held at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens in Calgary.

Herb’s family is deeply grateful to the staff at the University of Alberta Hospital and at St. Joseph’s Auxiliary Hospital for their care and compassion.
