Billy Ray Kelly, of Odenville, AL. age 75, passed away on October 7, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, craftsmanship, friendship, and love for his family.
Mr. Kelly was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Libby Lynn Kelly; his son, Bryian Keith Kelly; his father, Johnnie Joseph; his mother, Minnie Vera Kelly; three brothers; William, Lawson and Jerry and two sisters Emma Jean and Carolyn.
He is survived by his daughter, Carissa ( Charles) Minchew; his grandchildren, Erica Minchew and Dominick Goucher; and his great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Luna and Asher who were truly the light of his life. His sisters Irene Rocks and Ruth Nichols.
Billy was a self-taught machinist who dedicated nearly 50 years to mastering his craft. His skill, knowledge, and natural ability were unmatched. Even after retirement, his expertise continued to be in high demand, with other companies seeking him out to build cylinders and complete specialized machine work on the side. He possessed a rare talent for accomplishing what programmed machinery simply could not. His work was a testament to his ingenuity, determination, and the pride he took in doing a job right.
Outside of his work, Billy enjoyed fishing, spending time visiting with friends, and pursuing his interests as a collector of guns, knives, and coins. He appreciated the simple pleasures of
life and the friendships he built along the way.
Billy will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He held a special place in the hearts of his three friends, Ferrell , Kevin, and Hank , whose friendship was an important part of his life.
Though his hands have laid down their tools, the legacy of what he built, the memories he created, and the love he leaves behind will continue through the generations of his family. His life was marked by a skill that could not be taught in a classroom, a determination that could not be programmed into a machine, and a presence that will never be forgotten.
He will be remembered always and missed more than words can express.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 18, 2026 at Kilgroe Funeral Home, Leeds from 1:00PM until 2:00PM. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, October 18, 2026 at Kilgroe Funeral Home, Leeds beginning at 2:00PM.
