Charles Graves Franklin went home for his eternal rest on February 11, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family in his home. Though our hearts are filled with grief, we find peace knowing he resides in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Born on March 16, 1932, in Leeds, Alabama, Charles lived a life distinguished by service, humility, and faith. His kindness, wisdom and quiet strength touched all who were blessed to have known him. Charles was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, and friend. Known to many as Pal, PopPop, Dad, and Grandad, he was a devoted servant to the Lord and sought to glorify God in everything he did. Charles was a faithful member of Rosehill Baptist Church, humbly serving as a deacon for over 25 years. He was also a member of the 1st Baptist Church in Leeds. His unwavering faith, benevolent spirit, and tenderheartedness reflected his deep love and affection for Christ and his desire to live by God’s will. Beyond his faith, Charles enjoyed the small things–gardening, taking his motorhome camping at Wind Creek State Park, painting cars, and even dabbling in woodworking. He provided for his family at Circo Systems for almost 40 years before retiring to paint cars and the occasional handyman job. He is preceded in death by his mother Sadie Minick Franklin, wife Betty Franklin (married almost (60 years), second wife Elizabeth Starnes (married 10 years), great-grandson Logan Williams, his four brothers, and one sister. He is survived by his three children, Charles (Starr) Franklin, Diane (Larry) Williamson, and Pamela (Donnie) Knight; a daughter-in-love, Freida (William) Dean; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Though we grieve his passing, we rejoice in the promise made in John 14:1-3 (KJV) that says, “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may also be.” A heartful thank you to Enhabit Hospice for their compassionate care. His legacy will live on in our hearts forever, and may he rest in everlasting peace. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025 at Kilgroe Funeral Home, Leeds from 1:00 PM until 2:00PM. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025 at Kilgroe Funeral Home, Leeds beginning at 2:00 PM. Graveside services will be on Monday at Jefferson Memorial for the family only.
