
Daniel Joseph Shields, known to his grandchildren as “Papa”, passed away on September 24, 2016, after brief illness and entered into the presence of the Lord fortified by the rites of St. Theresa Catholic Church.
A native of Airdrie, Scotland, Dan attended university in Glasgow achieving a degree in music and construction management. Dan immigrated to the United States in 1961 and served in the U.S Army Corp of Engineers. Dan became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1966 and greatly loved his country and the opportunities it afforded him. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dianne Wistoski Shields, daughter Elizabeth, two grandchildren Elise and Daniel Fuller, his son-in-law Rodney Fuller Jr., his brother Peter (Celia) Shields and many nieces and nephews.
Dan loved listening to music, playing the piano, dancing, laughing, good food, tasty wine, and being with his family. He was a life-long fan of Glasgow U.K based Celtic F.C.
Dan touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity, and maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end. Friends and family are invited to visit Dan’s family Wednesday, September 28th, 2016, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. followed immediately by The Rosary. Funeral Mass celebrating Dan’s life will be held Thursday, September 28th, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. Both services will be held at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 1394 Ashville Court, Leeds, AL 35094.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Dan be made to the building fund at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 1394 Ashville Court, Leeds, AL 35094.
