

Ella (known by some as Rene) was born in Anniston Alabama and married Thomas Griffith. As a young couple, they made their home on Sand Mountain, Sardis City, Alabama.
Ella was a young mother of 4 children and also worked as an Assistant Librarian at Sardis City School.
In 1973 the family moved to Ashville, Al in St Clair County, where Ella worked as an Executive Secretary for the Eden Area Vocational School.
She also worked in that capacity for General Steel Tank and MAC Papers, both of Birmingham.
In her retirement years she made her home in Leeds, AL, where she enjoyed gardening and decorating her home.
Ella had an “artist’s” eye and loved beauty in all things. This was reflected in her avid love of gardening. She enjoyed sewing; making clothes for her family and draperies for her home. Ella also enjoyed decorating and crafts.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas L. Griffith, her parents, Robert K. and Mary B. Waugh (Kendrick) her sisters, Mary Cooper, Margaret Weisner and Bobbie Jean Taylor, her children Debra Griffith and David Griffith.
She is survived by daughters; Dawn Mercogliano (Tom) and Duska Powell, daughter-in-law; Renata Griffith, grandchildren; Tommy Powell, Taura Powell Cochran, Danis Griffith and Desiree Griffith and great- grandchildren; Austin Hale, Ivalee Glenn, Grayson Powell, Carson Cochran, Greyson Cochran, Mary Elizabeth Cochran and David Griffith.
A visitation will be held on Saturday June 20, 2026 from 10:00-11:00 AM from the Chapel of Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds, Alabama with a Funeral Service to begin at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery in Sardis, Alabama.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Ella’s long-time caregivers who cared for her as if she were their own: Louann Forman, Melody Blackwell and Miyesha Hatcher.
