Elmer Hartsell Rich Jr.

Elmer Hartsell Rich Jr., lovingly known as “Grandaddy Rich,” “PawPaw,” & “Grandaddy,” passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on November 17, 1941 in Alden, Alabama, Elmer was one of eight children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hartsell and Lassie Rich, and his siblings Pearl, Ricky, Buddy, Jerry, and Bobby. He is survived by his sisters Donna and Kay. To those who loved him most, Elmer was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Rich, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage. He is also survived by his children, Johnny Rich (Wendy) and Tammy Hamrick (Tim), and he was preceded in death by his son, Dewayne Rich. His greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren: Justin (Samantha), Brandon, Kelsey (Nick), Kailey, Karson (Lane), Hailey (Vance), and Ashlyn (Benjamin). He was also a proud great-grandfather to Perrie, Judd, Colt, Caroline, Cooper, and Trace. Elmer was a hardworking man who spent many years working at Firestone alongside his brother, Buddy. He especially enjoyed spending time outdoors gardening and beekeeping. His hands were often busy working, growing, fixing, or helping others. Additionally, he was a faithful member of Peaceful Valley Baptist Church in Moody, Alabama. Though his family’s hearts are heavy with his passing, they are grateful for the 84 years that they were blessed to have him. Visitation will be held at Kilgroe Funeral Home Leeds, Alabama, on July 31, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, followed by the Funeral Service at Kilgroe Funeral Home Leeds, Alabama, on July 31, 2026, at 3:00 pm. Burial will be at Moody Cemetery.
