Age 89, of Leeds, Alabama, passed away August 28, 2014. Mrs. Hartsfield was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Chester F. Hartsfield, Sr., son Chet Hartsfield, and daughter Bethany Hartsfield and Great Grandsons, Dylan and Jaxon Pendergrass. She is survived by her daughters Brenda H. Hudson (Tony), Barbara H. Martin (Mike), and daughter-in-law Sandra T. McGuire (Ted); grandchildren: Nick Hudson (Lauren), Rachel Hudson, Lindsay Pendergrass (Jesse), John Hudson, Jacob Hudson (Brittany), Lacey Bell (David), Melissa Martin, Lee McGuire, and Michael (Kendall); great –grandchildren: Landon E. Hudson, and M. Tucker Bell; sister, Myra W. Grable. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Special care takers: Lova Varela and Jan Jordan.
Mrs. Hartsfield was born in Leeds, and was one of 14 children which consisted of five single births, three sets of twins, and one set of triplets.
Mrs. Hartsfield worked with her husband as a small business owner in Leeds. They owned White’s Auto Store and Western Auto Store for over 30 years. She and Mr. Hartsfield were very active in the community being named Citizen of the Year by the Leeds Chamber of Commerce in 2001. She was most active as a member of Leeds First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Hartsfield was active in The United Methodist Women and the church choir. During their retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Hartsfield happily worked in the kitchen ministry of the church. Many people will miss her roast beef, chicken casserole, pecan pie, and peanut butter pie.
Visitation will be from 2-4pm, at Leeds First United Methodist Church with the funeral service to begin at 4pm on Sunday, August 31, 2014. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove cemetery. Rev. Chip Vann and Rev. Dee Dowdy officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Leeds First United Methodist Church, 1189 6th Street, Leeds, Alabama 35094.
