Gorden Brown Comans was born on August 7,1926 to John and Evie Comans in the community of Dixon, MS. He grew up during the Great Depression on his family’s cotton farm – plowing without a tractor and picking by hand. He graduated from Stratton High School in 1946 and held various jobs over the next few years. In 1953 he moved to Mobile, AL and began working at Brookley Air Force Base as a non-military government employee in what became the Defense Contract Administration Services (DCAS). In 1965 he transferred to Hayes Aircraft in Birmingham where he worked as an inspector until his retirement in 1985. He also worked part time buying and selling real estate. He gave his life to Christ in Mobile while attending Sage Avenue Baptist Church. He attended Roebuck Park Baptist Church in Birmingham, serving as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. After moving to Moody, he attended Bethel Baptist Church. He had a compassionate heart, visiting sick friends and shut-ins through the years. He loved a good cup of coffee, ice cream, and anything related to Mississippi - but his greatest love was his Savior Jesus Christ and his family.
