

Jimmy started his life on November 25, 1944, in Birmingham, Al where he spent his childhood in the small community of Westwood. He attended Minor High School. After graduation, he joined the armed forces as a Marine. Where he was deployed to Vietnam as an electronics expert.
After his time in service of his country, Jimmy gained employment with Norfolk Southern Railroad where he retired after many many miles of being a locomotive engineer.
Jimmy is proceeded in death by his wife Chris Poe, his son Philip Poe, his parents Harry and Doris Poe, his sisters Adrienne Morris and Beth Deboise.
He is survived by his daughter Laurie Poe, his son Paul Risley, his grandchildren Rhiannon Risley Holt (Derrin), Brooke Poe Eaves (DeWayne), Tiffany Poe Mundi (Stevie), Brittany Risley, Shelby Risley Borrello (Ben) along with 8 great-grandchildren. Auron, Octavia, Braelyn, Madelyn, Drew, Drake, Zoe & DJ. His brother Don Poe (Jan). His special friend that brough so much companionship and joy into his last several years on this Earth, Laura Chesser.
Jimmy was known for his sharp mind and deep curiosity about the world. A true science buff, he had an endless fascination with how things worked and never stopped learning. As a matter of fact, he read every scientific book that the Springville Library had.
He was also a perfectionist, for example, he never allowed anyone else to cut his grass or trim his immaculate hedges. He approached life with precision and care, putting his whole heart into everything he did. Whether it was a project he was working on, a conversation or helping someone he loved. He believed in doing things the right way. His attention to detail, intelligence and quite determination were matched only by his love for his family. He will always be remembered for his thoughtful nature, his dedication, and the pride he took in a job well done.
