

She was a member of Vandiver Church of God, a member of the Christian Cavalier Singing Group and an avid volunteer of The Love Center in Gadsden, Alabama.
She was a faithful wife to Fred D. Whitfield for 56 years and a loving mother to her 6 children and doting grandmother to her many grandchildren.
Helon loved to share the Gospel through song with her sister, Susie. Her life was a living example of the unconditional love of Jesus Christ and taught her family to have a servant’s heart always putting others before themselves.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Fred D. Whitfield, and she is survived by her children, Tammy (Mike) Acre, Freddy (Lynn) Whitfield, Teddy (Debbie) Whitfield, Jeff (Jan) Whitfield, Max (Tracy) Whitfield, Derek (Tammy) Whitfield, sister-in-law, Joy Wear, brother-in-law, Jim Likis, brothers, J. B. Leverton, Donald (Kathy) Leverton, Dennis (Sharion) Leverton, Billie (Pete) Tolbert and brother-in-law, Bill Wells, a host of loving grandchildren and great grandchildren. In the last months of her life, Helon was lovingly cared for by her devoted granddaughter, Cherie Bailey.
Funeral Services will be held at Vandiver Church of God on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at 2 PM with burial at Lawleys Chapel Cemetery in Sterrett.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 22, 2013 at 6 PM at Vandiver Church of God.
Grandsons will serve a Pallbearers and officiating will be Bishop David Houston and Reverend Norman Dye.
