Shortly after sunrise on June 27, 2020, Jesus came to stand by Jack’s bed of suffering and said, “You’ve fought the good fight; come on, Jack, let’s go home,” and leaving the ravages of 17 years of battling cancer behind, he was instantly in the presence of his savior, Jesus Christ, in Heaven. Born to Tommy and Georgia Banks on February 7, 1943, Jack Allen Banks was the third of four brothers, Thomas, Billy, Jack, and Larry. Having accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age, Jack joined Bethel Baptist Church in 1957 under the ministry of his dad, Rev. Tommy Banks, and remained a member until his death. He served Bethel as a deacon for many years. His quiet service and faithfulness to Christ the Lord was testimony to his devout love for God. It was at Bethel Baptist that he met and married the love of his life, Sandy Brunson Banks. They would have celebrated their 57th anniversary in August. Jack owned and operated Banks Excavating for 35 years. He enjoyed farming and woodworking as well. As his health declined, his pastime was filled with the joy and love of his grandchildren. Anyone who visited Jack witnessed his great love for his family and their love for him. Those surviving him are Sandy, his wife; Sons, Jimmy (Kathy) Banks and Dwayne (Laurie) Banks; Grandchildren, Brooke (Alex) Guin, Savannah Banks, Erika Banks, J. J. Banks, and Brunson Banks; great grandchild, Tyler Guin. Also survived by two brothers, Thomas and Larry. He was preceded in death by parents Tommy and Georgia Banks and older brother Billy Banks. Services will be conducted by Dwayne Banks, Josh Burnham and Brad Tollison. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at Bethel Baptist Church from 6:00PM until 8:00PM. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at Bethel Baptist Church beginning at 12 Noon with burial to follow at Bethel Cemetery. Prior to the funeral services the family will receive friends from 11:00AM until 12 Noon at the church. Pallbearers are Alex Guin, Jay Simpson, Mark Simpson, John Garrison, Cacey Wilson and Davis Harrison. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Hallmark, Drennen Walker, Redgy Riddle, and Tom Stembridge. The family expresses their heartfelt thanks for the compassionate support and comfort of church family, friends, doctors and health care workers. You will forever be remembered. I will always remember you coming into the bank and having a smile and being so nice. I thought a lot of this man. Him and Sandy was always so sweet, and their son Jim, with whom I became friends with doing their transaction. Wonderful family!

Those Old Trees-

It is with a very heavy heart that I begin to write yet another chapter in my autobiography, written that my children may know. This one is kind of a first though, in that I am struck by the thought of God's providence in having two generations of "trees" to find shelter under, when life's storms comes. You see I firmly believe that God in His infinite wisdom plants each of His children where He wants them. I do not believe it was an accident that Odenville Alabama was and is my place where God intended for me to live and love.

This town; this lil village of ours; unlike the barrenness of a desert, the loneliness of a mountain peak, or the shifting sands of a beach was and is one of the greatest places on earth to live. Oh it's not because of the landscape you can see; but rather the landscape that you can "see" when you look through the eyes of God. When I close my eyes, grab the hands of Him, and wander back through time, I see them, those old "Oak Trees" that provided shelter and relief from the storms that inevitably comes our way from time to time.

I was but a young child when I met the Reverend Tommy Banks. He was a man of considerable physique; straight and tall, a man of unwavering faith, a man who knew his calling, his destiny to be someone ever faithful in providing safety and shelter for the life's tired and weary, someone who provided a road map to heaven's gates. I was honored and blessed to see, experience and feel the love that this old country preacher gave to my Mama, during times of stormy weather and hard times. Yes, some of you will never know the hardships my Mama endured and certainly don't know how this old Oak Tree and his wife gave my Mama shelter, sustenance and encouragement and keep her safe til her storms passed by.

I am thinking as I write this; how blessed can one man be? You see, the Reverend Tommy Banks wasn't to be here my whole life to anchor me, to show me the map to heaven land, but God did the next best thing

We became friends the day they moved to our community. Brother Tommy and Mrs. Georgia brought an awesome set of boys here. Jack became a good friend. We always laughed about "us February babies" Out of 27 graduates, Jack was one of 5, and he fit with us 4 girls. I know that he is now at rest and in a place that is truly wonderful. Sandy, Jimmy and family and Dwayne and family, I pray that your hearts with be at peace with God's blessings falling on y'all.
