He served his country during World War II in the Company B 756th Tank Battalion, Army Branch. He fought in battles in Africa, Italian Campaign, French Campaign and 1944 German Campaign. He was awarded the Unit Citation European African Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon, 5 Bronze Battle Stars, Purple Heart and Oak Leaf Cluster.
He loved and trusted in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to keep him safe in battle and on Easter Sunday he received his greatest reward the Lord called him home to be with him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Wilmer Martin, brothers, Emery and Leonard Martin, and son Wayne Martin.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Thelma Martin, daughter, Sue Ann Martin, sons, Garry Martin (Margaret), Donald Martin, Dale Martin (Mitzi) Bruce Martin (Elaine) and Brien Martin (Becky), 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, sisters, Mildred Taylor, Faye Patman, and Iris Surles, brother, Charles Martin and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 from Kilgroe Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Bethel Cemetery.
