Rusty loved God with his whole heart and served Him with unwavering devotion. Whether he was joyfully shouting a hearty "Yeah!" from the back row during worship, greeting every visitor with a firm handshake and a grin from ear to ear, urging newcomers to join a small group (preferably his!), remodeling his home to help restore women in need, or cooking mountains of his famous jambalaya for a church gathering, Rusty only knew one way to do anything: wholeheartedly, with excellence, and at 1000%.
His love for Christ was pure, authentic, and contagious. Fearless in his faith yet remarkably tender, Rusty loved gathering around a home-cooked meal, listening to others' stories, and pointing people to Jesus. Above all, Christ was his first love, and next to Christ was his beloved bride, Krista, whom he cherished until his very last breath.
If there was one phrase that defined Rusty, it was his unwavering answer whenever anyone asked how he was doing: "Blessed and highly favored." Even through the darkest seasons of illness, Rusty never lost his faith. When he could no longer speak those words, he wrote them. We prayed for a different kind of miracle, but perhaps the greatest miracle was watching a man whose joy never depended on his circumstances and whose faith never wavered. His life was a testimony that, in Christ, he truly was blessed and highly favored.
He is preceded in death by his sisters, Betty Hanks, Virginia Trahan, and Sally Guillott, parents, Dallas and Nellie Guillott.
Rusty is survived by his wife of 24 years, Krista Cantrell; sisters, Barbara Guillott and Donna Miller and numerous nieces and nephews.
