My husband Michael Simmons worked with Stephen McCutcheon, with the City of Birmingham Public Works Department for several years and we became friendswith Steve and Johnnie Mae, we would go out to eat once a month, until Johnnie Mae's health got too bad. We are so sorry for their family's loss of Johnnie Mae, she was a very happy person to be around. Boy, was she an Alabama Crimson Tide fan, that is what I will remember the most about her.

Saying goodbye to this lady today was terribly difficult. To know her was to love her and be loved. Her thoughtfulness with birthday greetings or other moments in your life were like no other. She brought the fun wherever she went. She was such a light and a pure soul. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Rest in peace. I’ll never forget you. I love you 😘

I met this sweet lady on a cruise ship.  Her personality was so contagious and she was just such a good time.  Loved her energy.  A light in an often dim world.

Sad day for everybody that knew her. 
Rest in peace my friend. Johnnie Mae is up in heaven walking around making people laugh. I know at the Gate City Reunion, she was the life of the party in her big red Roll Tide shirt.

I am deeply saddened to have to acknowledge the passing of Johnnie Mae. No one and I mean No One could have ever fought harder than she and her beloved Steve to live. She has won that fight not on Earth but in Heaven.  I can see her now healthy and walking and talking at the same time. The only pain is on earth not in Heaven.  We all will see her at Heaven's Gates with arms wide open ready to show us around.  
Love to all the family and friends of this precious lady. Steve you and Tonya have done a fabulous job caring for that sweet wife and mother. May God give you comfort,  peace in your hearts, rest for your bodies and strength to get through the rough days ahead.
