Joseph Lamon Fulmer

Known affectionately by family and friends as “Whistle,” Lamon was a beloved husband, father, son, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, cousin, and uncle. He was a one-of-a-kind man whose presence brought laughter, love, and warmth to everyone fortunate enough to know him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Millard and Cecil Fulmer. His brothers Ealon Fulmer, Billy Fulmer, Mickey Fulmer, and his sister Janie Brantley.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Shirley Fulmer, and his six children: Karen Moody, Kelly Jones, Kristy Deason (Glenn), Mickey Fulmer (Julie), Jason Webb (Anne Marie), and Paige Crowe (David). He was a proud grandfather to 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, who were among his greatest joys and will carry his memory and legacy forward for generations to come.

For decades, Lamon was a well-known and respected mobile home business owner. He was a hardworking man who took great pride in what he built and accomplished throughout his life. But perhaps one of his greatest accomplishments was the lake that he helped create with his own hands. Using his beloved machines, Lamon worked alongside his son and many other men to build the lake—a place that became so much more than just water and land. It became a place filled with memories, family, laughter, and love, and a lasting reminder of the hard work and determination that defined him.

Lamon had a true passion for his machines. He loved operating them, working on them, and keeping them running. Whether he was working, tinkering, building, or simply enjoying his time at the lake, he was happiest doing what he loved.

But those who knew Lamon best will remember that he was so much more than a hardworking man. He was funny, generous, kind-hearted, and wonderfully silly. He had a way of making people laugh and bringing joy into even the simplest moments. He was known for his silly dancing, making his own funny noises, and sitting down at the piano to play fast songs just because he could. Those little things are the memories his family will treasure forever.

Lamon was the kind of person who would help anyone in need without hesitation. He gave generously, loved deeply, and treated people with genuine kindness. He also had a special love for his family, his lake, his machines, and all animals. His heart was big, his personality was unforgettable, and his love for those around him was undeniable.

Above all, Lamon taught his family the importance of being genuine, kind, hardworking, generous, and true to yourself. He never needed to be anyone other than who he was—and that is exactly what made him so special.

His passing leaves an enormous void in the hearts of everyone who loved him. But along with the sadness comes gratitude: gratitude for every laugh, every story, every lesson, every helping hand, every silly dance, every song on the piano, and every memory made together.

We will miss his laugh, his humor, his kindness, and all the little things that made him uniquely him. We will carry his love with us, tell his stories, cherish the memories, and strive to live our lives in a way that honors the beautiful legacy he leaves behind.

Visitation and Service

Family and friends are invited to gather and share memories of Lamon “Whistle” Fulmer during visitation from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds, Alabama. A funeral service will follow immediately at 1:00 p.m.
