Larry Wayne Golden

Larry Wayne Golden, 83, of Moody, Alabama, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026 leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories, a legacy of service, kindness, laughter, and love.

Born on April 27, 1943, in Birmingham, Alabama, Larry graduated from Pell City High School in 1961, where he played football as a running and corner back. His speed earned him the nickname "Galloping Golden," affectionately given by his coach.

As a young radiologic technologist working in the emergency room at UAB Hospital, Larry was on duty during the tragic 16th Street Baptist Church bombing in 1963. He helped care for several of the victims, an experience that profoundly affected him.

Larry later built a distinguished career in medical sales, where he was proud to have sold the first MRI machine in the United States. His work took him across the country and throughout Europe. After retiring from medical sales, he began a second career as a Realtor serving the Trussville and Moody communities.

While Larry enjoyed a successful professional life, he dedicated countless hours to making his community a better place. He served for 15 years as Chairman of the City of Moody Planning Commission, was a devoted member of the Lions Club, served on the Board of Directors for The Children's Place/St. Clair Children's Advocacy Center, and worked tirelessly to help raise the funds that made the Miracle Field in Moody a reality, creating a place where children of all abilities could experience the joy of playing baseball.

Larry never met a stranger. He had a gift for making people laugh, whether through a quick joke, playful teasing, or one of the many stories he loved to tell. Known as the class clown from an early age, he carried that joyful spirit throughout his life. He was the kind of man who always held the door for others, struck up conversations with complete strangers, and could leave someone smiling after only a few minutes together. Whether helping with a community project, watching an old Western, enjoying a round of golf, or cheering on the Crimson Tide, Larry found joy in life's simple pleasures and in sharing them with others.

One of Larry's greatest passions in life was Alabama Crimson Tide football. To say he was a fan would be an understatement. He was a longtime member of the Red Elephant Club, and filled his home and yard with treasured Alabama memorabilia, framed photographs, and keepsakes celebrating the team he loved so dearly. Saturdays in the fall revolved around Alabama football, and cheering on the Tide was a tradition he loved. Win or lose—but thankfully, mostly wins during his lifetime—Larry's response was always the same: "Roll Tide!"

Larry loved his family deeply. He is survived by his son, Michael Golden, and daughter-in-law, Caryn Golden; brother, Joe Golden; sister, Wanda Wadsworth; brother, Lane Golden; along with many nieces, nephews, and countless friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him. Larry was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Linda Golden.

Larry leaves behind a legacy measured not by accomplishments alone, but by the lives he touched. His family finds comfort knowing that his love, laughter, and example will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him.

Though Larry has cheered in his final Alabama game here on earth, we know Heaven has welcomed home one of its biggest fans. His laughter, kindness, and servant's heart will live on in all who knew him. Roll Tide, Larry. Roll Tide.

Visitation will be held August 3rd, from 1:00-2:00 at Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds, AL followed by a celebration of Larry's life from 2:00-3:00.
