Lavon M. Hayes

Lavon McCreless Hayes was born in Birmingham, AL 11-17-1939 and went home to be with the Lord on 6-14-2026 at the age of 86. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents Hugh and Addie Bell McCreless, husband Fred Hayes, son Doug Hayes, and sisters: Ramona Fulmer, Bobby Jennings, and Lana McCreless.

Lavon is survived by her children Danny Hayes (Wendy), Mickey Hayes (Jill), Ginger Isbell (Scott), and sister Clara Southern. She has 12 grandchildren: Andrew Hayes, Hannah Woodall (Stephen), Chris Davis (Anita), LaShae Hayes Lewis, Summer Fuit (Austin), Graci Hayes, Hope Hayes, Elonica Tanner (Nick), Danielle Perkins, Lauren Perkins, Logan Perkins, and Camran Perkins. She has 8 great grandchildren in her legacy. She was the 4th of 5 daughters and grew up on a farm sharing many stories of picking cotton, strawberries, and raising chickens that she and her sisters sold to their neighbors. She was married for 47 years and was very involved with her children and their families. “Mom loved visits from the grandchildren and sent them home spoiled”. Lavon loved the Lord, she sang with her family at church from childhood to adulthood in the McCreless family group. She held only one job her entire life and retired from Winn-Dixie as the Deli Manager after 20 years of loyal service. She loved to cook and was an excellent cook as her children will fondly remember always. Lavon loved to read, she dearly loved sunflowers and they could be found in every room of her home. She attended Bethel Baptist Church of Moody and was a faithful member of the Joy class for seniors. A celebration of Lavon’s life will be held on Thursday, June 18 at Kilgroe Funeral Home 1750 Ashville Road Leeds, Alabama 35094 with the visitation beginning at 1:00 PM, funeral services begin at 2:00PM and burial will follow at Cedar Grove Baptist in Leeds.
