
Margaret Billingsley Lawley, age 93, of Leeds, AL, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2026. At age of 21, she answered God’s call to become a nurse, receiving her Registered Nursing degree in 1955 from the Birmingham Baptist School of Nursing. She studied under Ida V. Moffett who was her beloved teacher and mentor. In 1979, she continued her education at Samford University completing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Margaret served many years at Leeds Hospital until its closing. She went on to serve as Administrative Director of Nurses for the construction and opening of Alabama’s first tri-level senior care facility, Kirkwood by the River, founded by the Independent Presbyterian Church in 1975. She worked in many surrounding hospitals before retiring from UAB Callahan Eye Hospital as a surgical nurse. She was always strengthened by her friends, family, and the fellowship of her cherished church friends at Cedar Grove Baptist, Hillwood Presbyterian, and Bryan Memorial Presbyterian. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert (B.B.) Lawley, daughter-in-law, Carla Dison Lawley, parents Dave and Ara Billingsley, brothers Jack, Frank, Raymond and Horace Billingsley, sister Frances Adams. Survivors include her son, Mark Lawley (Krista), daughter, Donna Mattick (John). Grandchildren; Dorinda Lutz (Jamie), Melissa Burks (Brandon), Jonica Thompson (Robert), Randi Funderburg (Keith), Nick Mattick and Sarah Mattick; 11 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Nieces and nephews Linda Vogel, Paula Meadows, Sherry Starling (Jarel), Gary Lawley, John Lawley and Jean Nations (Sonny.) Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026 from 1-2 p.m. in Leeds Kilgroe Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. officiated by Rev. Dr. Jule Nyhuis, Pastor of Hillwood Presbyterian Church of Nashville. Music provided by Krista Lawley, daughter-in-law. Graveside prayers, led by grandson Keith Funderburg, will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
