I can't even begin to express how much Marcie meant to my kids and me.  I met her 30 years ago.  When my kids and I didn't have much food, she bought us groceries.  She was there for me when I went through a horrible divorce.  I remember one time when my son was very sick, she drove and bought his medicine for me in the middle of the night.  She went on vacation with us several times and was often at our family get-togethers.  We helped one another for the past 30 years.  When Marcie started college, I was there to help her on that journey.  I remember her sitting in front of her laptop just crying because she was so scared.  I would come over and help her become familiar with the new technology.  When she needed a place to stay, I opened up my home for her.  We would enjoy drinking coffee together talking about our jobs, our kids and grandkids, and the Lord.   She loved my kids like they were her very own.   She kept up with them and enjoyed spending time with them when they would come over.  I can't even express how much of a close friendship we had for the past 30 years.  She would often say to me "You know me better than anyone".  Marcie was just herself around me and my kids.  She was my best friend, and I will miss her beyond words.  I can't even express how much of a close friendship we had for the past 30 years.  I am a better person because she was in my life.

I met Marcie in 1972 in Montevallo - she was the nicest person - totally unique - extremely kind and loving. Rest in peace, old friend - you will be missed by so many.

May God give strength and comfort during this most difficult time.

             I am so very sorry to hear of the passing of your beloved sister.
              I was just so shocked when I learned of this. I know y'all are still 
               grieving the loss of your precious mother and I know Marcie is
             there with her. I can imagine your mother ran to her with open
               arms., Can you just imagine the joy and hugs and laughter they
              shared. I will keep each of you in my thoughts and prayers.  if th
             ere is anything I can ever do for you just  let me know.

For the last 31+ years of my life Marcie has been quietly in my corner, helping to pick me back up when it was needed, encouraging me when I did not see anything positive in front of me and graciously leading me with her gentle and truly kind spirit.  

I was struck yesterday by the realization that Marcie has been right there with me through some of my life’s most darkest and deepest of moments.  She has also been right there to help applaud me and cheer me on in the moments of goodness and greatness.   

When I think of who Marcie is; she is the person that would literally give you the shirt off her back and the shoes from her very own feet.   “Giving” does not even begin to describe who she was.   Marcie would sacrifice for herself, in order to provide for so many others.  
I honestly do not know anyone else like her.  

Marcie took care of me and helped put me back together when my own mother died when I was only 21 years old.  

I would tell people that Marcie was my “godmother” because that was the only thing that felt like an honest  fit.   I will forever miss Marcie and the truly incredible, and unselfishly kind, and  generous and humble woman that she that was.    Our time together was a glorious gift and a treasure that I will NEVER forget.   

I pray to God in heaven that Marcie Vandegrift knows how very much she was/is loved and will be missed beyond measure.

I have so many memories of Marcie. I don’t know where I would even start. Marcie was an amazing woman, friend and mentor that loved the Lord. Always doing and caring for people and never seeking anything in return. I know that 20 plus years God put her in my life. I love and will miss you Marcie.  💔
