Norma was a rehabilitation counselor beginning her career as a medical case manager of seriously injured or chronically ill individuals. For over twenty years she worked an an expert witness in cases where she provided expert and trusted testimony concerning the extent of disability. One of her cases reached the Alabama State Supreme Court where her opinions were
upheld by the Court. Norma enjoyed her work and was well respected in the rehabilitation community and by her colleagues. Out of her interest in law came a keen interest in mediation
and conflict counseling. She received training in both disciplines from Peacemaker Ministries.
Norma enjoyed helping people come to resolution of conflicts by relying on Biblical principles.
She taught employers how to resolve conflicts using these principles by speaking at workshops
and individual counseling. Norma helped mediate disputes both inside and outside the church using the same principles.
Norma loved her horses. She showed Arabians and half Arabians for thirty years winning numerous regional and national titles. The wind beneath her wings was her husband of thirty nine
years, Glenn Stricklin. Glenn joined Norma in a her love of horses and encouraged her in all endeavors. Norma enjoyed planting flowers and watching things grow, as befits a farmer’s
daughter. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing, poetry, and writing poetry. Norma’s poetry will be enjoyed by family and friends for many years.
Norma enjoyed her friends in the valley and friends with whom she rode horses, but her best friend was the Lord. She taught Sunday school for adults and children. She played the piano and enjoyed hymns both old and new. Her favorite Bible stores include the faith of the Centurion and the plea of the Gentile woman for the crumbs at Jesus’s table. Scripture was her source of strength, comfort, encouragement, and protection. Her family and friends rejoice in the knowledge that Norma is now walking on two strong legs in Heaven.
Norma is preceded in death by her parents, J.R. and Vira Darnell. She is survived by her husband, Glenn; her sister, Martha Joye Samples (Ed); loving nieces and nephews; and many
loving friends.
