March 13, 1948 – October 17, 2026
Phyllis Carol McGriff Reid, 78, of Pell City, Alabama passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 17, 2026. During her final weeks, she was surrounded by the love and presence of her family and friends.
Carol grew up in Sandusky, Alabama, and graduated from Cullman High School where she was a member of the Glee Club. After living in Trussville and Leeds, she eventually made her home in Pell City, Alabama in her later life where she built a life filled with family, friendships, and cherished memories during her final years.
Carol retired from Motion Industries in Birmingham, Alabama. Following her retirement, she continued to enjoy the things that meant the most to her, especially spending time with family and friends between Alabama and Georgia.
Before her health began to decline, Carol found great joy in cooking, especially when family and friends gathered together. Whether it was a holiday celebration or simply an occasion to bring everyone around the table, she enjoyed preparing meals and spending time for with those she loved. Her breakfast casserole and sausage balls were a special holiday favorite, one of those treasured family traditions that will forever bring back memories of Momma and the love she poured into her cooking. She also had a special love for plants and the greenest of thumbs, able to bring life and beauty to anything she touched. These simple pleasures brought her happiness and reflected the care she put into the things that mattered most to her.
Carol was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Alan Reid; her infant daughter, Sonja Michelle Reid; her parents, Paul and Catherine McGriff; and her sister, Linda.
She leaves behind her daughter, Rhonda Reid-Garrett Dunn, and her husband, Chad; her son, Jamie Reid, and his partner, Alexander; her grandchildren, Cody Garrett and his wife, Robyn, Tiffany Garrett and her partner, Zach, and Sabrina Padgett and her partner, Jesse; and her two precious great-grandchildren, Mason and Parker Garrett.
She is also survived by her brother, Kenneth McGriff, and his wife, Jean; her nieces, Jennifer and her husband, Jack, Tracy and her husband, Vu, and Kelly and her husband, Chad; along with several great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
To the family, she was so much more than Carol. She was Momma and Meme - names spoken with affection and filled with a lifetime of memories. Those who knew her knew of her strong will, her warmth and deep love for all of those in her life. Her strength, unmistakable determined personality, and the memories she created will remain in our hearts forever.
Funeral service arrangements will be announced to loved ones by the family directly.
